Ben Coffey VP, Finance

Ben brings 15+ years of energy industry experience with project development, financial transactions, treasury and FP&A in addition to his engineering experience at the start of his career. He has been on the development team for the Black Bayou project since summer 2025 and directs capital raise efforts, treasury and laying the financial foundation for Black Bayou as it enters a period of rapid growth.

Ben previously served as Senior Director of Finance at Sunnova Energy, responsible for the administration of over $4 billion in asset-level capital across more than 30 debt and tax equity JV structures. Prior to his time at Sunnova, Ben was Principal of Finance at Commonwealth LNG and Senior Manager of Finance at Mexico Pacific LNG, helping each to advance its respective project through early commercial development and permitting stages assisting across the finance spectrum with financial transactions, financial modeling, treasury and FP&A responsibilities. To kick off the finance-focused phase of his energy career, Ben worked for two years at Jefferies Energy Investment Bank in Houston on over $15 billion in M&A and capital markets transactions.

Prior to working in finance, Ben spent the first 10 years of his career as an engineer supporting deepwater mega projects; the first five years with BP in the Gulf of America, and after the Macondo disaster, the remaining five years contracting to smaller deepwater operators in the USA and the Caribbean, ultimately via his own company. As an engineer, he advanced these deepwater mega projects across all stages including concept development, design, construction, testing, offshore execution & commissioning, operations and decommissioning.

Ben holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and an M.B.A from the University of Texas at Austin.
